BPA Free

Why choose BPA Free?

Consider this: Bisphenol – A (BPA) is a developmental, neural, and reproductive toxicant that mimics estrogen and can interfere with healthy growth and body function … shockingly, its also the chemical used to make polycarbonate-plastic serving dishes, eating utensils, food storage containers, baby bottles, teethers, pacifiers etc. that we have the option to purchase and use each and every day. Reference the chemistry books to learn that because of the unstable bond between BPA and the plastic, the BPA leaches into materials with which it comes into contact. Add up the facts and you get a baby drinking out of a polycarbonate-plastic bottle, not only ingesting his milk but also a toxic chemical. Scary, isn’t it? (Even more frightening when you learn that the developmental stage of infancy is when BPA is most harmful, even in small doses). There is an ongoing debate between experts centered around at what concentration levels BPA becomes harmful to the average person. But, as a mom, I ask you, why take the risk?

When you purchase BPA Free you are casting your vote to decrease the number of polycarbonate-plastic products on the market. The huge corporations that currently profit from using these questionable materials will change their production methods (for for the better & safer) if consumer spending does not support them. Remember, consumer product companies have known for years that the average consumer is like a zombie when it comes to buying products. They know what buttons to push to create a mindless consumer (one who will buy on impulse or who has been pre-programmed to purchase certain products). This is what subliminal advertising is all about. BUT, it is where we choose to spend our dollars that ultimately dictates the choices available to us – that is, IF we don’t fall prey to the advertising push for the most popular/profitable products. I say, let’s start taking ownership of the products on the market: let’s do our own research and get educated on what we are buying and stop depending on the profiteers for product knowledge. This is when we will see a change.

In the meantime, you can take simple steps to reduce your and your family’s exposure to BPA by choosing glass or BPA-free alternatives for baby bottles; choosing glass, porcelain or stainless steel containers for hot foods and liquids; using glass containers for microwaving; and reducing your use of canned foods (many are lined with a BPA-containing resin).
